Outreach Producer |
Description Thirteen/WNET New York, the flagship public television station in the metropolitan area and a major producer of programming for PBS, has an immediate opening for an Outreach Producer in the LAB@Thirteen, a vigorous and expanding unit in the station's Education Department.
The LAB@Thirteen creates, develops, and executes educational and community outreach initiatives that extend the "life after broadcast" of Thirteen's television productions. The LAB's myriad activities include dynamic partnerships with schools, universities, and cultural organizations; professional development workshops for K-12 educators to support use of Thirteen's programming in the classroom; community-based screenings, discussion forums, and launch events; the creation of educational activities to support new and upcoming broadcasts, and idea development for educationally-based collaborative opportunities, projects, and products. In addition, the LAB@Thirteen leads national educational and community-based outreach projects in partnership with PBS stations across the country.
Based on Thirteen's current programming pipeline, we currently are seeking an Outreach Producer who specializes in one (or more) of the following content areas: history, global affairs, or science.
The Outreach Producer selected will be responsible for managing a variety of Thirteen's educational outreach initiatives, which will involve:
- Executing outreach plans as described in production proposals;
- Collaborating with partner organizations, as well as local and national sites, to meet project deliverables;
- Communicating outreach activities to internal staff at Thirteen;
- Developing and producing special educational events tied to Thirteen's broadcast productions;
- Supervising contract staff for specific LAB projects.
- Creating dynamic educational content and presentations to promote use of Thirteen's broadcast productions in formal and informal educational settings;
- Presenting Thirteen's educational tools to a variety of audiences in hands-on workshops, lectures, and demonstrations;
- Reporting project progress and successes to funders.
To be considered, applicants should have five to ten years of experience in education or educationally-related fields, as well as a bachelor's degree (an advanced degree is desirable). Special attention will be paid to applicants with proven experience in formal and/or informal educational settings. Applicants with experience in non-profit education or outreach at museums, arts organizations, or other cultural organizations are strongly encouraged to apply. Applicants should have the ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously and work independently. The ideal candidate will have superb organizational and interpersonal skills. Strong writing and excellent presentation/public speaking skills are essential. Some travel will be required. Television production experience is not necessary for this position, but a sense of humor is a must.
